At Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County, volunteers are the heart of our mission. Today, we are proud to shine a spotlight on Mary, one of our most dedicated ReStore volunteers.
Mary first stepped up in a big way during the pandemic. When the Bergen ReStore reopened to volunteers in June 2020, many were hesitant to return. But Mary showed up every day the store was open, offering her time, energy, and leadership during one of the most challenging times in our history. Her dedication helped ensure the ReStore could reopen and continue to support Habitat Bergen’s mission.
That commitment hasn’t wavered. To this day, Mary continues to volunteer at the ReStore most days of the week, serving as a team leader, mentor, and friendly face for both volunteers and customers. New volunteers look to her for training and guidance, while long-time volunteers count on her consistency and encouragement.
Her impact reaches beyond the store. The ReStore provides vital financial support that makes it possible for Habitat Bergen to build and repair homes for families, veterans, and seniors in need. From helping a senior couple complete their 150 hours of sweat equity toward their Habitat home in Washington Township, to supporting our current veteran build project in Westwood, Mary’s contributions ripple out into the wider community.
Mary’s ongoing dedication has even led to recognition—she was nominated for the AARP Andrus Award for Community Service, a testament to the impact she has made through her service.
We are deeply grateful to Mary for her kindness, leadership, and unwavering commitment. She is proof that one volunteer can make a lasting difference, day after day.
